Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley — hosted by someone who actually lives here

Most wine tours drive you through the Tamar Valley. This one is run by someone who comes home to it every evening. Anthony lives at Marraway Farm on the West Tamar Highway — on the wine route itself — which means the winemakers you’ll meet aren’t strangers he’s arranged a visit with. They’re neighbours.

The Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley runs every day of the week — including Sundays — from just two guests. We collect you from your Launceston accommodation between 10:30 – 10:40am in our full-size minibus and spend the day visiting 4 cellar doors across the West Tamar wine region, each chosen for their distinct character and story.

Tastings at every stop are included. Lunch is a proper sit-down experience at Moores Hill Estate — Tasmania’s first 100% solar-powered winery — where you’ll settle in with a seasonal grazing board of local Tasmanian produce and a glass of Moores Hill wine, overlooking the vineyard. We return you to Launceston by late afternoon.

Sparkling Wine Tour — Pipers Brook, Tasmania’s sparkling heartland

Tasmania produces sparkling wines that compete with the world’s best — and the Pipers Brook, Pipers River region is where most of them come from. This tour takes you there: north of Launceston, into a landscape of rolling hills and cool maritime air that has been drawing serious winemakers since 1974.

Your guide is Anthony, who lives on the Tamar Valley Wine Route and knows this country the way a local does.

The Sparkling Wine Tour runs every day including Sundays, from just two guests, collecting you from your Launceston accommodation at 10:30am. We visit 4 cellar doors in the Pipers Brook wine region — producers who have spent decades perfecting méthode traditionnelle sparkling in one of the world’s great cool-climate wine regions.

Tastings at every stop are included. Lunch is at Nadine’s at Pipers Brook — the celebrated restaurant set within Pipers Brook Vineyard, one of Tasmania’s oldest and most significant wineries, established in 1974. From the hilltop setting you can see Bass Strait on a clear day. Nadine’s serves generous platters of fresh Tasmanian produce alongside a glass of estate sparkling — a lunch worth the drive on its own.

Frequently asked questions about Tamar Wine tours

Every Tamar Wine tour includes 4 cellar door visits, guaranteed — you always visit 4 carefully chosen wineries, each different in style, size and story. The Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley focuses on the West Tamar wine region, while the Sparkling Wine Tour explores the Pipers Brook region to the north east of Launceston.

Yes — Tamar Wine runs 7 days a week, including Sundays. We operate every day of the year except Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If you’re visiting Launceston over a weekend, Sunday is a great day to tour — the valley is quieter and cellar doors are more relaxed.

Our tours run from just 2 guests. This means if it’s just the two of you — a couple, two friends, or a pair of solo travellers who’ve connected — your tour goes ahead. There’s no waiting for a larger group to fill, and no risk of your booking being cancelled due to low numbers. Many of our guests say this is what makes the experience feel genuinely personal rather than like a group outing.

The price is $195 per person for the Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley and $288 per person for the Sparkling Wine Tour in Pipers Brook. These prices are all-inclusive. That covers: door-to-door return transport from your Launceston accommodation; 4 winery visits with all tasting fees included; a sit-down lunch with a glass of wine at a named vineyard restaurant; and your guide for the full day. There are no booking fees, no surcharges for East Tamar Routes, and no surprise costs at the cellar door. What you see is what you pay.

They cover different parts of Tasmania’s premier cool-climate wine region.

The Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley explores the West Tamar wine route — home to family-owned estates producing outstanding, award winning cool climate wines — with lunch at Moores Hill Estate, Tasmania’s first 100% solar-powered winery.

The Sparkling Wine Tour heads north to the Pipers Brook region, visiting producers specialising in méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines that rival the world’s best, with lunch at Nadine’s at Pipers Brook — set within one of Tasmania’s oldest and most celebrated vineyards, established in 1974, with views to Bass Strait on a clear day. Both tours depart from Launceston and include 4 cellar door visits.

Lunch is a proper sit-down experience at a vineyard — not a picnic box or a platter in a car park.

On the Wine Tour in the Tamar Valley, lunch is at Moores Hill Estate and features their seasonal grazing board of local Tasmanian produce — four cheeses, charcuterie, pickles, relish, walnuts and crackers — or a cheese selection or seafood plate, served with a glass of Moores Hill wine.

On the Sparkling Wine Tour, lunch is at Nadine’s at Pipers Brook, where generous platters of fresh Tasmanian produce — cheeses, seasonal hot dishes, meats and seafood — paired with estate wines.

A glass of wine is included with lunch on both tours.

We collect you from your Launceston, or nearby, accommodation — hotel, apartment, Airbnb or home — and return you there at the end of the day. There’s no need to find a meeting point or worry about parking. Pickup time are arranged in order that tours can depart at 10:40am.

We use a full-size minibus with a high roof, grab rails, and easy step-in boarding — not a small minivan where the rear seats can require an awkward climb. The vehicle is air-conditioned and comfortable for a full day out. This makes a real difference for guests who prefer not to squeeze into a low-roofed people movers, including older travellers and anyone with mobility considerations.

Yes but these should be discussed during booking to ensure we can accommodate you. Our full-size minibus has grab rails and high-roof entry, making boarding and alighting easy for guests with restricted mobility. We run small groups from just 2 guests, which means the day moves at a comfortable pace — no rushing between stops. Our lunch venues at are fully wheelchair accessible. We welcome guests to contact Anthony directly before booking if you have specific accessibility requirements — we’ll always do our best to accommodate you.

Yes — if you fall in love with a wine at one of the cellar doors, we coordinate shipping directly to your home address from the last vineyard visited. Guests collect wines from the different vineyards and once they have a “dozen” (or multiples of 6 bottles), they can ask that last vineyard visited on the tour to pack and send their bottles home for them. This allows for purchases across multiple cellar doors to be combined into a single shipment.

Your guide is Anthony, also known as Neil to his close friends, — who doesn’t just work in the Tamar Valley, he lives here. Guests consistently describe his tours as personal, unhurried and genuinely knowledgeable.
